A quick lesson for civilians

If anyone has been in the US military, this is very basic. Some of this is part of post-boot-camp training, even the Marines, so j v vance knows better. He should know better to claim that it is not a loss of rank to go from Command Sergent Major to Sergent Major. Refer to the chart that designates them both the same paygrade of E-9, so it is not losing rank to transition from Command Sergent Major to Sergent Major. Although I am a squid (Navy) where the equivalent is Master Chief and Command Master Chief (or Chief of the Boat COB if the command doesn’t have a Master Chief or Senior Chief). In this case the role is specific and there is only one Command Master Chief or Command Sergent Major at any command and it is extremely important. It requires specific training that is often updated. This training also required money that should not be spent on someone who is (in the Case of Sergent Major Tim Walz) retiring, will send his successor to attend the training. For all the civilians reading this, this happens all the time with classes. It is part of the smooth running of the best military force the world has ever seen.

It is also noted that very few ever become the rank of E-9 and they are entitled to retire at any time, yet most, including Sergent Major Tim Waltz continue to serve the needs of the U S Military (in this case the Army Reserve, of which I can see how being a Command Sergent Major has some uniquely difficult ‘challenges.’ This is where the actions of some politician claiming ‘stolen valor’ is beyond despicable. As is calling veterans “losers and suckers’ while continuing to use our brave solders and sailors doing their dirty work. Even for me 10 years was enough, so 24 years is definitely enough to call it a career, especially what became the eternal cluster fuck that was Iraq and Afghanistan. Perhaps the morality and deployment is the subject for another BLOG, but I will not stand by as someone who has defended our freedom becomes the source of a political attack.
